God behind bars: series of interviews with prison chaplains

The aim of the practical bachelor's thesis God behind Bars: A Series of Journalistic Interviews with Prison Chaplains is to provide insight into the historical development of spiritual service in the Czech prison system, and in particular to describe its current form and the ways and specifics of its functioning. The series of journalistic interviews documents six personal stories in which male and female chaplains describe the reasons and motivations that led them to the vocation of prison chaplains, and share their personal experiences with this profession that they have gained during their practice. Through the interviews, the respondents characterize the chaplaincy work, the principles of prison spiritual service, and offer various perspectives on the work of spiritual professionals in Czech prisons.
The History of Parish in Stráž nad Nežárkou between 1900 - 1950

The Bachelor thesis deals with the histori of the parisch in Stráž nad Nežárkou in the period 1900-1950. The main topic is the beginnings of the clerical administration in Stráž nad Nežárkou, which date back to the middle of the 14th century and further developed over the centuries until 1900. It describes the beginnings of education, which is related to the Bishop of Budějovice J. V. Jirsík. From the 20th century there is information from both world pre-war, war and interwar periods. It describes the life of the owner of the local manor, opera singer Ema Destinnová. The work deals with the history of transfers and exits from the Roman Catholic Church in the period between 1919-1941 and other information from the parish until 1950. The theoretical part took place mainly by collecting data from archives and practical by processing them and supplementing them with information from the used literature and Internet sources.
The Memorial Book of the Chapel at the Sychrov Castel, 1862-1867.

This bachelor thesis aims to introduce a memorial book of the chapel of the castle Sychrov (Liber memorabilium arcis Sichrov = Memorabilienbuch des Schlosses Sichrow), which was created in year 1862. The memorial book was written between years 1862-1950 (the memorial book consisting of three volumes, special attention is dedicated to the establishing of the memorial book and the first volume written up to year 1867). The creation of the memorial book was commanded by Sychrov owner Kamil Rohan. The command was fulfilled by beneficed chaplain Josef Němeček and his successors. In this thesis there is described the creation of the memorial book, strong connection to the memorial book of the castle (Gedenkbuch des Schlosses Sichrow) and for better understanding of creation, there is described position of Sychrov chaplain with short Němeček biography. Two general chapters Rohans and Sychrov are written with using of content of the memorial book of the chapel. As an addendum, the first memorial book is edited in in brief regesta format in this thesis.
Parishes of the Volyně vicariate and their functioning in the second half of 19th century and first half of the 20th century

This thesis deals with history of the Volyně vicariate, focusing on the second half of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. The thesis is divided into three major chapters which describe history of Volyně vicariate from various points of view. Chapter 1 is dedicated to archival sources which were used to obtain data for the purpose of this thesis. Archival collections of parish offices or vicar offices are introduced in this chapter, as well as wide range of usage of district office´s archival resources. All of these may be used as a source of knowledge on ecclesiastical administration. Beside this, three types of archival documents are analysed and described in this chapter - parish chronicles, visitation documents of canonical visitations, inventory of church and parish property. Chapter 2 aims to depict both movable assets and real estate in the Volyně vicariate´s parishes. Building development and reconstructions of churches and parishes in the Volyně vicariate are described in this chapter as well as equipment of churches, such as items made of metal, choir robes, bells and organs. Chapter 3 deals with clerics of the Volyně vicariate. The objective of this chapter is to introduce variedness of the parish priest´s work, duties of a chaplain and accustom of both clergymen. Duties of vicar office are also defined and specified in this chapter. The thesis also contains introduction, conclusion, bibliography, reference list and the concise history of the Volyně vicariate. At the very end of this thesis there are charts and graphs making particular chapters complete.
Soldierly curate of Czech republic army and social work

In this Bachelor thesis, we enquire into Military Chaplaincy in the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR). We ask ourselves whether chaplains, within the scope of their activities, also carry out social work. First, we discuss helping what is it and why, in fact, we help others. Second, we present some possible definitions of social work. We describe in detail the position and tasks of military chaplaincy in the ACR. We have mapped the essential prerequisites of service of a military chaplain. Not every applicant is a suitable candidate, whether it be in terms of physical, mental, or professional competency. The thesis includes interviews conducted with ACR chaplains. We have met the stated objective of the Bachelor thesis through the analysis of these interviews and the Social Services Act. Background information was obtained from academic publications and Internet resources. Detailed information on chaplains' practice was gained from personal communication, based on the interviews conducted.
Legal regulation of pastoral care in civil aviation

The thesis examines the regulation of pastoral care in the sector of civil aviation by the laws of the Roman Catholic Church (Latin Church). The general part first describes the theological reasons for special pastoral care, as well as the inception and development of its institutional organisation. The core of the general part of the thesis consists of identifying and interpreting the relevant legal standards of the Roman Catholic Church's (Latin Church's) general canon law. Attention is devoted in particular to the possibilities of organisational arrangement, the issue of airport chapels, their canonical status and use, individuals providing pastoral care, the specific issues of communicatio in sacris and the possibility of regulation by particular law. The special part of the thesis describes how pastoral care in civil aviation is organised in selected European Union member states and how it may be modified by particular law. Military Chaplaincy in the Czechoslovak Army in the years 1918?1939 with special emphasis on the Roman Catholic Church

This dissertation deals with the history of military chaplaincy in the space of the historic Czech lands. It mainly focuses interwar period of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. The first part of this work deals with the history of activities of military clergymen until the time of founding of the First Republic and briefly passes through a period of many centuries. Then it informs about founding of Czechoslovak Army after year 1918. It notes especially the receipt and development of military chaplaincy until the reorganization of the armed forces in the thirties. Also, it informs about the development in a stable chaplaincy and about its general organization, both in peacetime and in time of the state of emergency. The next section informs about the activities of chaplains in different specific environments. The most comprehensive fifth chapter is dedicated to the life stories of individual chaplains. The consequential part shows life and work of the last chief of military chaplains General Jaroslav Janák. These biographies are key resources for understanding the real duty life of catholic military priests. This dissertation is primarily compiled on the bases of archive resources.

Influence of Religious Services on Resocialization of Persons Serving a Prison Sentence

Bachelor thesis "Influence of religious services on resocialization of persons serving a prison sentence" initially describes evolution of prisons and spiritual development services from antiquity to the present. Subsequently, the personality of chaplain, his conjunction with ethics, activities of chaplain both while convict serves a prison sentence, so after the release of prisoners and documents on which the chaplain works in prisons, are introduced. In the next section there will be introduced the civic association "Vezeňská duchovenská péče". There are mentioned basic informations about the association, conditions of membership in the connection with voluntary services in prisons, conditions of membership in the chaplaincy service and position of chaplain within the prison staff. The final section summarizes results of the polls, which were presented to convicts visiting their chaplains in four different prisons. According to these results there should be found the goal of this bachelor thesis - find out why people in prisons are motivated for attending the spiritual service and what is the impact of this service (according to prisoners).
